This is a view from from an old road, on the ridge above Castleshaw, looking up the hill from Bleak Hey Nook towards Standedge. This old road continues up the ridge and eventually meets up with the modern road over Standedge. It is easy to understand that this was actually part of the old Roman road from Castleshaw to Meltham, and probably also on the route of the traveller from Roebuck Low who later would become the first person to use the surname Robucke, some time before 1200 AD.

If you look closely at the bottom of the picture you can just make out the shadow of a lost Roman soldier.
