This is a picture of a well. Not your common or garden, bucket on a rope, type but befitting any stately home. The surprise here is that its location is an old quarry. The inscription is damaged and really difficult to read but it is dated at 1680. This in turn dates the quarry even earlier. As the well has a locked door, it wasn't possible to see what was inside.
